Things To Be Thankful For… It’s Thanksgiving Time

things-to-be-thankful-forIt’s that time of year.  Thanksgiving.  And it’s time to look back and reflect on the things that we have to be thankful for.  It’s so easy to look past our fortunes and amazing lives.  The daily grind, responsibilities, trials, and just plain ol’ life can really mask all the wonderfulness we might dwell on.  It’s like watching the news… all they talk about is the bad stuff that happens.  But this week (and all weeks really), we should focus on the good and the things to be thankful for.

Things To Be Thankful For

1. Your life.  Be thankful that you are on this side of the grass people!  Many, many have come and gone… but you are alive RIGHT NOW!  And it’s a great time to be alive!  We have freedom of choice… lives free of hardship and oppression… and we have everything we need to be happy.  We have it good.

2. Your health.  This is what enables #1 and gives quality to every other thing you have to be thankful for.  Your health is the most important part of your life.  A healthy body will create happiness in yourself and those around you.  And if you feel like you don’t have your health?  Commit to changing it!  That’s what this site is about.

3. Your family & friends.  Yes, your family may be whackadoodle (all families are I think) but most likely they love you and will love you your entire life.  That’s a pretty amazing thing.  Thank every person in your family that you can for being a part of your life.  And your friends?  You get to choose them and good ones will lift you up and inspire you.  Be thankful for the friends that do.  And hang on to them and MAKE them your family.

4. Love.  Do I need to explain this one?  It’s what makes a shitty day okay.  Someone loves you.  A spouse, significant other, child, family member, or friend.  Love them back.

5. Mother earth.  This place is incredible.  Truly.  Make sure to find ways to experience her in new ways and see what she has to offer.  It will make you thankful indeed.

6. Bountiful food, drink, and celebration.  This is the main event for Thanksgiving (the day) and is certainly worth celebrating.  Enjoy and celebrate… it’s crucial to your existence and happiness.  If you are reading this blog post, I’m pretty sure you want for nothing… that’s pretty incredible.

7. Humility.  Realizing that there are billions out there with the same feelings, thoughts, and desires we have… and that we are part of something much bigger makes us much more likely to be thankful for our fellow man/woman.  Be thankful by caring for others, helping others, and allowing yourself to feel empathy for those that may not have as many things to be thankful for.

Things To Be Thankful For

I know I have a few things to be thankful for.  I am thankful for:

  • Love and Jen Dery… a creative, talented, entertaining, and even interesting partner.  Jen is a happy person and it’s infectious.  What more can I ask for?
  • A supportive family.  I have been able to do so much in my life because my family backs me up 100%.  I am thankful for the love and words of encouragement that they constantly give me.
  • Doing what I love.  Not many get to.  But I have gotten the opportunity to build my own business in the last year… and the journey has been pretty incredible.
  • Finding health.  It’s at the center of my happiness.  A healthy Ryan is a happy Ryan.  That’s going to my grave with me.
  • Helping others.  I am so thankful for the people that I get to work with and the interaction we have.  I get wonderful notes, emails, and words thanking me… and I always feel like I should be thanking them… because helping people does just as much for me.  I appreciate every single person that I get to work with.
  • Seeing the world.  Italy, Peru, and soon more of Europe.  I love expanding my horizons and seeing new and different things.  Here we go!

Enjoy your Thanksgiving and come up with your own list of things to be thankful for.  Write them down!  That will make them real.  You can even put them in the comments section below.  I would love to see them!
