Path To Success: Not A Straight Line… At All

path-to-success

I am currently somewhere in that jumble…

I think most people imagine success as an endpoint in which they reach some great goal.  A set of steps to be followed, and BAM!!  They are now successful.  I know I had always thought of it this way.  The reality of success is much different though… at least in my experience.  There are no straight lines or easy answers.  The path to success isn’t a path at all… it’s more like a cloud or fog.  And success is defined as getting small victories along the way.  Success is not quitting because it’s hard.  Perseverance even in the face of frustration, lack of results, or even complete failure.  The path to success is a life changing journey, but the rewards are many.

Path To Success

I’ll use my own fitness based business as an example.  When I started, it was very simple; I had an idea of where I would be in a couple of years in and I felt that I would easily accomplish that goal.  Looking back, I cannot tell you how far my idea of success deviated from the path I have actually come down.  It may sound like I feel unsuccessful.  I don’t.  But the successes are much smaller, much harder fought, and much more meaningful than I could have ever imagined.  That’s what success really is… earning every once of it so you can appreciate it more than you ever thought.  And that’s the true path to success is like.  At least that’s how I feel today.

This week alone, besides just helping people and getting though my daily coaching activities… I have completely overhauled/started a real prospecting strategy, hired a professional website guy to rework the mechanics of my blog, and am having to rethink several different program approaches.  I am working hard to create a meaningful Facebook page (thay may be an oxymoron).   I am running a free workout program contest.  And I went on TV again.  Whew!

Why?  Because success doesn’t come from one place, it comes from many.  All these things work together to create a path to success.  Yes, I am constantly going back to the drawing board.  And yes, I am constantly looking for ideas that will help me be more effective.  I am always looking to connect with the right people.  Every day is new.  Every day is a fight.

Luckily, I love this stuff.

The path to success isn’t always pretty.  It’s about work, determination, losing your way, and finding again (maybe).  It’s about allowing for a SHITLOAD of mistakes and not getting down on yourself.  And it’s about finding a way to make it fun.  For me, that’s seeing my challengers have success and get all excited about health and fitness.  It’s about watching someone change their life enough to commit to a lifetime of fitness and helping others.

Those are the sweet rewards for all this hard work.  And they may not come all the time, but when they do… man are they worth it all.

Dedicate yourself to success in something you love, and let the path to success take you where it will.
